• The installer reviews the plan and confirms rail placement and power location.
• Protective coverings may be placed on floors and stairs.
• The rail is attached to the stair treads using brackets and screws.
• The chair and carriage are mounted on the rail and tested for smooth travel.
• Safety features such as seat belt, swivel seat, and sensors are checked.

Most straight stairlifts are installed in a few hours; curved systems usually take longer, especially if there are multiple turns or landings.

Before leaving, a good installer will show the rider and family members how to:

• Get on and off the stairlift safely at both landings.
• Use the seat belt and swivel seat correctly.
• Operate the controls and call/send remotes.
• Fold the seat, armrests, and footrest when not in use.
• Respond if a safety sensor stops the lift.

Ask any questions during this time so everyone feels confident using the lift.

• Keep the rail and footrest clear of objects, pet toys, or clutter.
• Wipe the seat and armrests with a mild cleaner as needed.
• Make sure the lift is parked in its charging position when not in use.
• Listen for new noises or rough movement and report them promptly.

Many manufacturers recommend a professional service visit about once a year to check moving parts, batteries, and safety systems.

Contact your stairlift provider if you notice:

• Beeping or error codes that do not go away after resetting.
• The chair stopping partway up or down without a clear reason.
• Unusual grinding, scraping, or jerking motions.
• Visible damage to the rail, chair, or power cord.

Do not attempt to disassemble the lift yourself. A trained technician can safely diagnose and repair most issues.
